Mirga Gražinyte-Tyla conducts Birmingham Contemporary Music Group for the first time, and Pierre-Laurent Aimard in this celebration of a very American genius: Elliott Carter.
We at BCMG are immensely proud of our late friend Elliott Carter- and we are grateful to have been able to perform so many of his compositions during his lifetime. In this concert, we have chosen works to celebrate his life and work – some pieces that are new to us and several we have performed before.
Our connection with pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard goes back decades – indeed we performed the World Premiere of Epigrams together in 2012. Pierre-Laurent is one of the world’s leading interpreters of new music who has been associated with Carter’s music.
We are looking forward to working with Mirga Gražinyte-Tyla for the first time; her performances with our sister ensemble the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra have been electrifying!
An intimate setting
We will transform Town Hall with a performance on the flat, allowing audience and performers to be within touching distance of one another for the first time.
