Learning

Many young people today have very limited access to music education. Dwindling opportunities within schools are increasingly focused on instrument learning rather than creative music making. Young composers today have fewer opportunities and resources than young performers, with no clear pathways for progression.

BCMG is the only organisation in the Birmingham area that provides free creative music making workshops for young people ages 8 to 18. We offer young people the unique opportunity to work with industry professionals in a creatively encouraging, fun environment.

We are also one of the leading organisations supporting teachers delivering the composing element of the curriculum.

The breadth and scope of our Learning & Participation programme work would be reduced significantly were it not for the help of charitable donations.

Throughout our season, we bring the joy of creative music making to hundreds of young people and families across Birmingham and further afield, for free or at a heavily discounted cost.
We work hard to ensure that composing does not become the preserve of those lucky enough to afford it.
