BCMG are delighted to be working with the RSA on an exciting project during the 2017-18 academic year spanning all 7 RSA Academies in the West Midlands. The overall aim of the project is to bring together the Academies through the creation and performance of a new song cycle celebrating the schools common mission and values. Composer Michael Betteridge has been commissioned to write a new song cycle created in a participatory way with young people, parents, teachers, governors and SLTs from all 7 schools.
The BCMG song cycle project includes three main elements:
• Commissioning a new song cycle to be created in a participatory way with young people, parents, governors and SLTs from all 7 schools
• A series of rehearsals culminating in performances of the song cycle locally and at the CBSO Centre
• A series of song writing workshops for the young people
• Professional development for teachers to musical creativity and singing in schools
Working with Michael, each school has helped shape its own song within the full cycle of songs lasting around 40 minutes. Material has been gathered from parents, teachers and governors from each school and will form part of the final performance.
The schools involved are:
Abbeywood First School, Redditch – here is a short clip of one of their workshops
