Horn & Orchestra Manager
Mark Phillips has been a member of BCMG for nearly 24 years, and a member of the CBSO for nearly 26 years.
Born in London, he studied at The Purcell School. the Royal Academy of Music, and at the National Centre for Orchestral Studies, and was a member of both the National Youth Orchestra and the European Community Youth Orchestra.
As well as playing in both BCMG and the CBSO, Mark enjoys the “behind the scenes” work as well. In the CBSO, he has been a member of the Players’ Committee including two stints as Chairman, and in BCMG, he is the Orchestra Manager as well as its horn player. His Orchestra Manager responsibilities include booking all the players, and arranging travel and accommodation for the group when BCMG tours both in the UK and abroad.
Mark lives in Harborne. His wife Jenni is an oboist, and has appeared with BCMG on a number of occasions. She is now Head of Woodwind at Birmingham Conservatoire. Their eldest son Jamie is currently the Assistant Conductor at the Halle, and their younger son Adam is also a talented oboist, but wants to be a pilot.
